August 17th is National I Love My Feet Day!

On August 17th of this year, take a moment to appreciate your feet. That’s right there is a day for everything and being passionate about all things foot and ankle, we would love you to love your feet, even for the day. 
Here is 3 ways you can do that: 
Massage your feet – with an estimated 20,000 nerve endings in your feet, this part of the body can become sensitive and deserves a bit of attention. Spend 5 mins on each foot working all the many muscles through the arch. You will feel immediately lighter and your feet will be supple and free. 
Go barefoot – A famous Podiatrist colleague here in Melbourne once described shoes as “leather coffins”! Slip your shoes off, and walk outside on grass or a natural surface without shoes on. When was the last time you skipped down the garden path barefoot! Even short periods of time without shoes on allow the joints, bones and muscles to work how nature intended. For those really adventurous, try walking on a pebbled path… for extra sensory stimulation!
Sit back and ….stretch – Whilst it may not be relaxing for many, maintaining toe flexibility is one of the best ways to love your feet and keep them flexible. Don’t overdo it, just 10 -30 seconds at a time to begin with.
